How Wimax Works

Wimax is a new technology which solves many of the problems with the older mobile internet access technologies. It provides the same high speeds of broadband but offers the benefits of wireless technology, which makes it less expensive than DSL and cable.

It is also easier to extend Wimax coverage because it offers the wide coverage of a cell phone network rather than the limited coverage of WiFi hotpots. Wimax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, and it's also known as 802.16 by the IEEE. Wimax can revolutionize broadband internet access in much the same way that cell phones have led many people to abandon their landlines. Wimax could easily replace DSL or cable internet access services because it offers the convenience of universal access almost anywhere you can get a cell signal.
